The Shou Sugi Ban Coffee Table invites you to experience the beauty of nature through its stunning craftsmanship. Inspired by the ancient Japanese technique of charring wood, this table transforms a solid slab of Samoan Wood into a captivating centerpiece for your living space.

Through a repetitive process of charring away the soft wood, leaving the harder grain standing, the exterior is refined, resulting in a finish that captivates the senses.

The Shou Sugi Ban Coffee Table serves as a conversation starter and a testament to the artistry of skilled craftsmanship. Its organic silhouette and textured surface infuse your home with elegance and intrigue, making it the perfect spot for sharing moments with loved ones.

The tabletops, made from one solid block of wood, are naturally shaped and therefore unique from piece to piece.

    Coffee Table

The table is incredibly beautiful in color and shape. The only problem I had was a crack on the top. Not sure if it was from shipping. A new one will arrive in about another month. At least before Christmas!

    Hi Julie,

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback. I'd like to share a bit more about the piece and its design.

Our Shou Sugi Ban Coffee Tables are crafted from a single, solid plank of wood, which is essential for applying an authentic charred finish. Because Shou Sugi Ban cannot be performed on laminated or glued-up boards, we kiln-dry each solid plank for 24 hours to stabilize it before charring. This process naturally causes some boards to develop cracks, and about 30% of them do.

Most furniture companies avoid this by using laminated wood with a black painted coating, but doing so would prevent us from applying the true Shou Sugi Ban finish. Instead, we embrace the material honestly: cracks that are purely aesthetic are left in place and considered part of the wabi-sabi character of the piece. We only discard or reject boards when a crack could affect structural integrity or long-term durability. We also cannot fill the cracks afterward, as fillers cannot bond properly to charred wood.

This approach lets us keep the table accessible in price while preserving the authentic craft and natural beauty of the material.

That being said, I'm glad to hear we were able to get you a table to your liking. We're working on getting some tables with cracks photographed to share online as well.

    Thanks so much,
    Jordan

    Refined wabi sabi beauty

I love that it’s made from a solid slab of wood. It's elegant yet organic, with a refined wabi-sabi feel. The finish is so dark it’s nearly black. It's such a subtly beautiful piece.

Delivery was seamless—the team unpacked it and placed it exactly where I wanted.

Though surprisingly lightweight and easy to move, the table feels sturdy and well-built.
