The shou-sugi-ban application is a traditional Japanese wood preservation method that involves burning the first few layers of wood to enhance its durability and resistance to elements. It also creates a unique texture and appearance as the soft wood is scraped away leaving the harder wood grain exposed.

Prolonged exposure to sunlight will not cause fading and discoloration for pieces with the Shou Sugi Ban finish.
